An alluring medley of regional color, this 4x6-foot stained glass window in the main lobby of F&M Bank in Preston, Minnesota — a work by local sculptor and stained glass artist Karl Unnasch —

turns “mundane” elements from Fillmore County culture into a glowing whirl of rural fantasy. Plays on scale have a river tube floating in a glass of milk and a strawberry dwarfing a doe and her fawn, while a giant Angus beef cow peeks shyly from behind a canoe and a monstrous brook trout emerges from behind a bicycle wheel. Art becomes a puzzle as viewers are absorbed into the image to start picking out the elements. There is even a sly nod to F&M Bank directly in the design — hidden in plain sight at front center stage.
