The tree was also a call to a cause:

The charity Hungry for Music received and redistributed all of the new and gently used musical instruments donated by the public through the drive organized by Downtown Silver Spring.

More details can be found on the Downtown Silver Spring website, here.

Silver Symphony by Karl Unnasch

Karl Unnasch extends his most sincere appreciation to the masterful ENJOINERY for their collaboration on this project!

Video of the Tree Lighting Celebration by Alejandro Rios of Downtown Silver Spring:

(3m 46s)

Awash with sound, motion and light, the 2014 holiday tree in Silver Spring jingled at passers-by on the whims of the wind, luring them in to the magical music panel to chime in and “play the tree” with a holiday tune of their very own.

Studded with trumpets and trombones, cellos and guitars, triangles and cymbals and windchimes and bells, Silver Symphony was a tribute to the importance of music in our everyday lives.

A Selection of Other Works:

At the base of the tree, the life-sized Playbox — a musical control panel in the form of an oversized gift box — allowed for cymbals to be struck, chimes tinkled, bells jingled and strings strummed by holding down the big toy-like buttons.
